Gregor Petri is a Vice President and Industry Analyst in the Research and Advisory team of Gartner. Mr. Petri’s coverage area includes cloud and edge computing strategies, with a special focus on communication and financial service industries. During his tenure at Gartner, he held roles such as Vendor Lead Analyst for one of Europe’s largest telco’s, Agenda Manager for Gartner’s Cloud-Based Offerings Research, Country Research Lead for the Benelux region. Currently, he is the Key Initiative Leader for Gartner’s Industry Markets and Technologies research. Presenting perspectives on the impact of technological innovations, formulating industry strategies for cloud, edge and ecosystem scenario’s and helping organizations plan and prepare for this transition are important parts of his research activities.
Previous experience
Prior to joining Gartner, Mr. Petri was a regular speaker at industry events and authored cloud primers such as: “Shedding Light on Cloud Computing” (2009), “Lean, or the Art of Cloud Computing Management” (2011) and “Tune into the Cloud” (2017). He syndicated his LeanITmanager blog and was named by Cloud Computing Journal as one of the world’s “Top 100 Bloggers on Cloud Computing”, by The Huffington Post as a “Top 100 Cloud Computing Expert on Twitter”, by CloudComputingWire as a “Top Cloud Computing Influencer” and is regularly listed by ARchitect as one of the “Power 100 analyst”. Last year he launched a “Tune into the Cloud” BlogCast from the Gartner Blog Network.
Earlier in his career, he worked as a Management Trainee in the office of the CIO at Akzo, analyzed just-in-time manufacturing at Philips and helped launch several IT innovations, such as object-oriented ERP applications, mobile business applications and XML servers into the European market.
Prior to his current position, he was Senior Director of product marketing, EMEA, at CA Technologies. He is a former board member of the Dutch Web-Services Association, the XML Users Group, Holland and Geel-Zwart field hockey, where he actively played until taking up running.
He studied business economics and information technology in Rotterdam and Tilburg. During his study, he wrote and marketed one of the first European shareware applications and founded his first consumer electronics and media startup.
